![]() | Vertical axis wind turbines have five main advantages over horizontal axis wind turbines: 1. There is no need for the turbine to turn into the wind as it can be driven by wind from any direction. In turbulent wind conditions, horizontal turbines twist and turn to follow the wind and so spend some of their time in an inefficient position. Vertical turbines harness the wind wherever it comes from and are always efficient. 2. At high wind speeds, there is no need to shut the turbine down as Vertical Wind Energy vertical axis turbines are generally self limiting in top speed. As power is proportional to the cubic velocity of the wind (i.e. if you double the wind speed you get eight times the power) then this helps us increase yields. |
