26/02/2010 Warwickshire farm goes green with new “vertical” turbine

Speaking earlier today, the day the Field2 turbine was installed, Tony Gordon, Chief Executive, Vertical Wind Energy, explained: “With the Government going to pay Feed-In Tariffs (FITs) of up to 34.5 pence for 1kW of energy generated from wind from April 2010, payable to anyone who installs a turbine, regardless of whether they use all the electricity themselves, people like Alan Smith at Greenhill, Warwickshire will instantly have a new income stream by installing a Vertical Wind Energy turbine and harvesting free wind.”
“The Vertical Wind Energy turbines can generate electricity regardless of the direction of the wind unlike many conventional horizontal axis wind turbines.”
“The payback on your investment on a Vertical Wind Energy turbine is between 5 and 10 years. A recent independent market survey looking at the 11 leading turbines on sale in the UK shows that VWE’s Field3 produces the lowest cost electricity, taking into account all costs over the 20 plus years lifetime of the turbine, for turbines rated at less than 10kW.”
Further the change in the planning regime around permitted developments should speed up the planning approval process. This should also be in place in later in the summer 2010. This will make it easier for customers to get planning approval and install such turbines.
Tony Gordon, Chief Executive, Vertical Wind Energy added: “As well as being able to operate in variable wind environments and of course creating an income stream for people who install them on their land, our Field2 turbine which, given the way the FIT rates are going to work, are probably most appropriate for many small holdings, farms and schools, are also very quiet.”
Alan Smith, owner of the farm at Greenhill, Warwickshire, said: “Installing a Vertical Wind Energy turbine is simply the right thing to do on many levels. First and foremost it is the right thing to do for the environment to reduce our carbon footprint. I am a big supporter of wind power and this investment in the Field2 turbine is a clear demonstration of that. I would urge others to install one. There is also the added bonus of financial incentives in the form of Feed-In Tariffs”.
